OCCULT AND TRANSFORMATION OF INDIAN ARMED FORCES

To sense a future possibility or induce a future reality are two sides of the same occult coin, and to differentiate the two is beyond the rational perception of an uninitiated observer.’

The Battlefield Science

The scientific principles behind application of force on a battlefield are best explained by Richard E Simpkin in his books ‘Red Armour’ and ‘Deep Battle’, wherein he invokes the formulae of mass x velocity to generate desired momentum to overcome an X amount of static mass of an enemy, or employing fulcrum to leverage own energy while retarding enemy momentum, and so on. However, applying these scientific principles is an art, as there are intangible forces too, acting on the battlefield. They need to be understood and factored to successfully accomplish the task at hand.

Collective consciousness of the opposing combatants is one such intangible force. Simpkin paraphrases it as, “In any battle the imponderable and critical factor is what is going to happen when commanders are exhausted and under extreme pressure and when their men’s adrenalin is flowing.” In other words, the minds of the combatant soldiers and their commanders are highly susceptible to vagaries of the battlefield environment and should be logical targets for exploitation.

Logistics network is another such force, being the energy lifeline on the battlefield. Any disruption of this network cuts off the energy supply of the adversary, grinding its momentum to a halt. It is the soft underbelly of any force on the battlefield and more susceptible to enemy action then the hardened combat spearheads.

Consequently, soft kills should be the preferred approach, to overcome enemy resistance, then achieving hard kills. It achieves the desired battlefield outcome by employing lesser mass but with greater momentum to generate more energy to shock and awe the enemy into submission.

The Awareness of Occult

To have a basic insight into Occult forces it is adequate to grasp that the Brahmand (Universe) comprises of two components, Akash (matter) and Prana (energy). Everything that has form is evolved out of Akash; air, liquids, gas, solids, planets, stars, living organisms, and so on. Prana on the other hand is the infinite, manifesting power of the Brahmand. It is everything that we call energy, force, gravity, magnetism, movement, nerve currents, thoughts and so on. Prana is essential for evolution of Akash into multifarious forms. As Akash changes, this prana also changes from one from of energy to another.

Prana consists of elemental and dimensional forces. The elemental forces are identified as earth, air, fire, water, and ether, whereas there are deemed to be three dimensional forces. Occult is all about sensing Prana and subtly altering its interface with matter. As a point in case, the Earth’s surface is two thirds water and the impact of gravitational pull of the nearest celestial object, the Moon, is a scientifically established phenomenon, evidenced by the strength of the tidal patterns of the oceans which wax and wane to coincide with the waxing and waning of the moon. This water element forms eighty percent of the human body and is equally impacted by the pull of the moon’s gravitational energy.

An Analogous Battlefield Interplay

‘Operation Overlord’, codename for the Allied invasion of Europe in June 1944, is best to understand the interplay between matter and elemental energy. The Allied powers invading force was to move from one land to another, over water, and by air, employing fire to soften the enemy forces, under ideal moon and star light conditions. Two artificial harbours, critical to maintain logistics (energy) supplies were to be towed and anchored off the invasion beaches. Invasion was scheduled for 5 June 1944.

Bad weather over the English Chanel forced last minute postponement of the invasion by 24 hours. Two weeks later, another spell of bad weather irreplaceably destroyed one of the two artificial harbours impacting the energy supply of the invading force. In both instances the interplay of elemental forces of air and water wrought havoc twice within a span of two weeks.

In the above scenario, it is theoretically possible for the invading force to manifest major occult forces to divine the emerging meteorological phenomenon and adopt preventive measures well in time. The defender too has the option to take recourse to occult by enhancing  the impact of emerging meteorological phenomenon to scuttle or deeply impair the combat potential of the invading force.

The Allied powers had developed an extensive deception plan, Operation Fortitude, to preserve the secrecy of Operation Overlord. Again the invading force can theoretically employ the occult to deceive the adversary commanders to negate the evidence of an impending invasion as to time/location/strength. The defending force too has the theoretical option to access the mind of the invading force commanders to perceive the real battle plan.

Quite interestingly, closer to home, at the peak of the India – China faceoff in Ladakh in 2020, a freak weather turbulence caused extensive damage to Chinese patrol boats and jetty infrastructure at their Sirijap base on northern bank of Pangong Tso.

Confluence of Occult and Army Way of Life

There is great commonality of approach in the study and application of the principles of the Occult and Warfare. They are science in their study and art in application, are equally ancient and entail a life time of commitment.

The occult adept and a true soldier both volunteer to their respective way of life. There is no compulsion to join either.

The two ways demand belief in the cause. There can be no success without this belief.

Possession of self-discipline is essential to progress in the respective ways of life. Lack of self-discipline will invite only stagnation.

A warrior cannot be one with his command unless there is sincerity of purpose. An occult adept cannot achieve the desired communion without this quality.

Both the ways require passionate commitment to their way to achieve success. You live, breathe and eat your way of life. All other commitments and worldly pleasures are secondary.

Delving in Occult and Warfare demand intense concentration of mind. No distractions are permissible, on pain of failure, when engaged in either. Flitting thoughts of worldly matters are not permissible.

The soldier and the occult practioners follow a dedicated routine, so as to imbibe the knowledge of their ways into their inner core. This ensures peak efficiency even under extreme stress.

The followers of the two ways are answerable to their respective laws of nature and government. Non-adherence entails eviction from their respective ways.

Selfless sacrifice is the norm for the two ways. Both are willing to relinquish their identity for the common course.

Human history is replete with examples of warriors’ adept in both the ways. Parshuram, Krishna, Vikramaditya, Prophet Mohammad, Knight Templars, Guru Gobind Singh, are prime examples that come to mind instantaneously.

The Transformation Process

Accepting the existence of occult is the first step to unshackle the armed forces from its moribund thought process.

The modernisation of the armed forces war fighting machinery shall always be an ongoing evolutionary process. The Indian armed forces have been lagging far behind their potential adversaries, in looking deep into the future battlespace, to transform themselves to fight the wars of the future. Parallel development of ‘sixth sense’ of the human potential of the armed forces would best meet the requirement of keeping themselves synchronised with the future battlefield science. It would provide the proverbial ‘leap into space’ so essential to grasp the finer nuances of effectively guiding, developing, and absorbing the new warfighting technologies and evolve new battlefield doctrines in an acceptable time frame.

A subservient armed forces hierarchy promotes conformist mindset, a bane of military leadership that inhibits openness to untested ideas and thoughts. This phenomenon is highly dangerous in a fast evolving battlefield space, where staying relevant with new technologies and warfare dimensions will be the difference between victory and defeat in future wars. In the Indian armed forces hierarchy the roots of this subservient mindset can be traced to the unspoken pre-selected ‘line of succession’ within the armed services, on the altar of which brilliant military careers have been snuffed. Determined disruptive action from the very top is the need of the hour to free the military hierarchy from this morass. This catharsis, a painful process, is the need of the hour.

Indian military already has a deep foundation of occult in the structure, customs and traditions of its fighting units, and it needs to be exploited to the hilt. Simultaneously with freeing the armed forces hierarchy from the cross of pre-selected ‘line of succession’, there needs to be a parallel thrust, through institutionalised measures, to seep the fighting arms and formations with the idea of occultism.

Establishing chair of excellence in select think tanks, and fellowship and research in art of ancient warfare in vernacular universities needs to be promoted.

It should be followed by setting up an Army Institute of Parapsychology, on lines of Army Sports institute, for identification and training of exceptional occult talent.

Introduce study of ancient scriptures dealing with art of ancient warfare in prime training establishments.

Sharing of Occult experiences

Will follow through with some battlefield occult experiences from the Indian Army, whose provenance is established, in subsequent writeups.

  1. Use of occult practice in warfare as a force multiplier is an exciting concept.
Hope it catches the imagination of those who matter.
I complement the author for bringing this novel idea to the fore.
    And

  2. Yes. Couldn't agree more. Committed was Barbari in Mahabharata whose course of action was altered to suit Krishna's war.

You have given the right direction for progression provided there's an element of integrity to take it forward.

    Best wishes. Deg Teg Fateh

  3. Acceptance of the concept of Occult practices as propounded by you and shedding off the conformist mindset by the military top brass are a prerequisite for this idea to bear fruit. We have heard many stories about valour of soldiers in the face of the enemy which have defied rational explanation. The idea of setting up an institute to study this phenomena is commendable. Excellent writeup Rakesh. Keep up the good work.
